Forum: classic_tv Subject: Examples of television production costs (per an episode) circa 1951

Toast of the Town - $29,500
Your Show of Shows - $25,000
Texaco Star Theater - $45,000
Colgate Comedy Hour - $40,000
Rocky King, Detective - $6,000
The Plainclothesman - $5,000
The Fred Waring Show - $35,000
Philco TV Playhouse - $25,000
Goodyear TV Playhouse - $25,000
Cavalcade of Stars - $15,000

These figures are from a 14 November 1951 issue of Variety.

I found this infomation in a book I read called "The Forgotten Network".

It's funny that even though it was quite low-budget, "Rocky King, Detective" is better remembered today than "The Fred Waring Show" and possibly "Goodyear TV Playhouse". But the best remembered show is "Colgate Comedy Hour". This series is still very popular! If someone restored the episodes on a DVD box set, it would sell like hotcakes!

I did a quick search and here's what is on here of each series:
